"We want to see even more women play leading roles in local government" - International Women's Day 2021

“On International Women’s Day 2021, we would like to reaffirm London boroughs’ commitment to ensuring London achieves gender equality.

“As borough Leaders at the forefront of our respective political groups and City of London Corporation Policy Chair, we are proud to be leading London local government, but we remain determined to do more to ensure our town halls better reflect the diversity of our communities.

“We want to see even more women play leading roles in local government to shape communities across London, especially young women. However, we know that there are still many barriers that face women and girls that must be challenged and dismantled, as this year’s IWD theme highlights.

“We are also working through our pan-London Grants Programme to make our city safer by tackling domestic abuse, which is most likely to affect women and girls. The grants fund support for domestic abuse survivors and prevention work in schools to help children and young people understand and recognise healthy relationships from an early age.”
