World Aids Day 2022

Cllr Nesil Caliskan, London Councils Executive member for Health, Wellbeing and Adult Care, said:

“HIV continues to be one of the biggest public health priorities in the capital. London boroughs are proud of the work we do to prevent HIV by promoting testing, PrEP, condoms and U=U via Do It London, our collaborative information campaign.

“On World Aids Day, we are reflecting on the journey of HIV prevention over the years and celebrating the progress that has been made, thanks to joint working between boroughs, VCS partners, UKHSA, the NHS and the GLA.

“In 2021, new HIV diagnoses in London fell by 7%. Looking further back, between 2015 and 2021 new diagnoses fell by 66%. While we are pleased with our success, we are also very conscious that there is much more still to do, particularly to tackle the stigma surrounding having an HIV diagnosis and ensuring diagnoses occur at the earliest possible stage.

“We are also committed to our ambitious citywide pledge to end all new HIV diagnoses by 2030.”
