The cross-party group London Councils has welcomed the Chancellor’s decision to extend the £20-a-week uplift to Universal Credit for six months, but describes this as the “bare minimum” needed to stop homelessness rates increasing even further.
The upcoming Budget must support London’s recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic by giving local government the funding and powers to ignite the economy and boost jobs in an inclusive way, according to membership group London Councils.
London Councils has described the housing secretary’s announcement of new funding to address the cladding crisis as “undoubtedly welcome”, although boroughs insist further government action on fire safety issues is still required.
