'We are going in the right direction' - London Councils responds to end of Plan B

In response to Government announcing that Plan B measures will be lifted, Cllr Danny Thorpe, London Councils' Executive member for Health and Care, said:

“Thank you to every single Londoner for the actions you have taken to keep yourselves and your loved ones safe from the Omicron variant of Covid.

“By getting vaccinated, regular tests, meeting up with others responsibly and ensuring spaces are well ventilated, you have played an important part in our collective efforts to beat the virus.

“Yesterday's announcement shows although we are not out of the woods yet, we are going in the right direction.

“From next week boroughs will work with organisations across the capital to encourage mask wearing in more crowded and enclosed places where you are with people you do not usually meet, including London’s Tube and train services.

“As ever we’ll be keeping a close eye on London’s case rates and hospital capacity over the coming weeks to ensure we continue to make progress.

“We will also continue to support NHS colleagues in offering first, second and booster vaccinations to all Londoners, as having the vaccine makes it much more likely that your immune system will protect you from the worst effects of Covid.”
